Examination schedule

  • June series: 1 January to 30 April 
  • November series: 1 July to 31 October 
  • March series:  1 November  to 20 February

Examination Module

Cambridge conducts Art & Design-0400 exams in two modules of coursework and externally set assessment. The whole syllabus is tested in two papers paper 1 and paper 2. Before these exams, the candidates have to submit their assessment work for both modules and Cambridge issues some important instructions before submission of the assessment modules. Students have to follow these instructions to achieve high grades in the final examination. Your work for both components must be different. Some of them are 

Module 1: Coursework

  • Supporting studies should consist of four A2 sheets 
  • Outcomes should not exceed one sheet of A2 
  • Work on module 1 should be submitted  before 2nd module

Module 2: Externally set assignment

  • Supporting studies should consist of four A2 sheets 
  • Outcomes should not exceed one sheet of A2

Grading threshold

Cambridge IGCSE Art & Design-0400 grading scale is designed from 9 to 1 so that students can prepare themselves to gain high grades. These scales are designed to test different factors in students and judge their skills and abilities. Cambridge always works to update its grading threshold so that students can easily be tested and they get a chance to gain high scores in the final examination. The grading threshold for paper 1 and paper 2 is different. The marks division of each paper is also varied differently.

Assessment Overview

The Assessment modules are comprised of 2 components. These components are arranged to judge student’s conceptual and practical skills. Students have to prepare projects on their selected topics. They select these topics from specimens. The project of Component 1 should be different from Component 2. 

Component 1

  • It is based on coursework 
  • Its total marks are 100. 
  • Students have to research, develop, and realize the project from the topics of specimen 
  • Students have to explore their selected topic for the project
  • There are two parts to course word  A portfolio and outcome. 
  • It is externally assessed.

Component 2

  • It is externally assessed
  •  The total marks of component 2 are 100. 
  • Candidates respond to one starting point set by Cambridge International. Candidates may produce work from the same areas of study as Component 1, but they do not have to
  • There are two parts to component 2. The first one is supporting studies and the other one is final outcome which is the procedure during the supervised test of 8 hours’ total duration.
